Ultra Violet music video
I recently released a new music video for my work ‘Ultra Violet’. It is comprised of many different time-lapse photography clips which perfectly illustrate the different landscapes of the piece. The piece was inspired by the vision of birds, with their ability to navigate via their incredible Ultra Violet colour spectrum, millions of colours more than we can see with human eyes. The work was written during a period of travel, and so has a sense of observing from above.
The renewed interest in the work was sparked by an opportunity given to me by the Royal New Zealand Ballet, for the work to be choreographed to by Loughlan Prior of Hansel and Gretel fame. The work was to travel to the Royal Opera House in London in late March 2020, to be performed as part of an international showcase of Ballet companies. While the work has been choreographed, it is yet to be performed because of travel restrictions and Covid19. My hope is that this will happen on NZ shores in the not too distant future. In the meantime I’m making the music available for you all to listen to. It is a brand new recording.
With big thanks to the performers - Amalia Hall, Callum Hall, and Sarah Watkins. And with thanks to Isaac Hikaka for sponsoring the recording session. The work was originally commissioned by Chamber Music New Zealand and the NZ Trio.
