Arts Laureate 2024

On October 18th I was made a 2024 Arts Laureate!

Presented by fellow composer Eve de Castro-Robinson, with words from musician and laureate alumni Don McGlashan. A trophy so heavy it could hold open any door 😉 what an unreal night.

The Blackbird Ensemble even made a special appearance to play a short interlude.

Thank you so much to The Arts Foundation Te Tumu Toi, to Joanna Hickman for her generous support of the arts, to One NZ, and all who advocated for me to receive this award. It was a huge surprise and massively encouraging to keep doing the hard mahi!

A word from the panel:

“A formidable mid career composer, Claire’s creative imagination and flair shine through every project she takes on, whether for stage or screen. An energetic collaborator, she has produced a slew of prime-time TV soundtracks, won multiple national awards, several composer residencies, and had two full length ballets commissioned from the Royal New Zealand Ballet.”
